To All Property Owners (Residential and Commercial) within Airmont:
With the large volume of snow we just received, many fire hydrants are covered/blocked with snow. This creates a serious life safety hazard. Should there be an incident for which a fire hydrant is needed, in the time it will take for the Fire Department to locate and clear the fire hydrants, it could be the time when a life is heaven forbid lost. With the current predicted temperatures, the snow will likely not melt anytime soon.
Please make the time today to clear the snow from around the fire hydrants located on your property.
I would like to remind all of the village code:
ยง 80-44. Access to fire-protection equipment.
The parking of any vehicle within 15 feet of any fire hydrant or Fire Department Siamese connection shall be prohibited.
A. No shrubs, dumpsters, or other items that may obstruct the view of and/or access to any fire hydrant or Fire Department Siamese connection shall be permitted.
B. It shall be the duty and obligation of any owner, occupant or tenant of any premises located within the Village of Airmont to maintain a clear and unobstructed path for a radius of 10 feet in every direction from any fire hydrant located on or in front of any premises or within 20 feet of any lot line and to maintain said area clear from all obstructions, including but not limited to dirt, debris, shrubbery and snow.
Respectfully,
Shlmo M. Pomeranz
